Bill Gomez has been arrested and charged following a months-long scheme in the Rockville and Baltimore areas.

The Rockville resident became the key suspect as the Montgomery County Department of Police's Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES) began investigating a sudden rise of Infiniti G37 models being stolen throughout the region, authorities say.

During the investigation, it was found that Gomez was actually running a "pseudo chop-shop" out of his home in the 800 block of Westmore Avenue in Rockville.

It is further alleged that he obtained VIN numbers from wrecked or salvaged vehicles, which he then placed onto the stolen ones to conceal his scheme.

Last week, Gomez was arrested after being busted in a stolen Infiniti, the department announced on Tuesday. A search of his home following his arrest led to the recovery of another stolen vehicle, as well as other evidence linking him to the thefts.

He was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with several auto theft offenses before being released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
